Winslow Junior Rovers, 1893-4

Winslow Town F.C. was formed in 1891 (after a previous club formed in 1878 had folded). A junior team was formed in 1893 which later merged with Winslow Town to form Winslow United F.C., the club which is still in existence.

WINSLOW JUNIOR ROVERS v. MIDDLE CLADON. [sic]

-The return match between these teams was played on the ground of the latter on Saturday.  During the first half no goals were scored, the wind being too high to shoot properly.  In the second half the Rovers succeeded in forcing two goals through the Claydon posts, and, at the call of time, the game stood Rovers, two goals,  Claydon, nil.

BLETCHLEY v. WINSLOW ROVERS.- On Saturday a match was played between the Winslow Rovers and Bletchley.  The latter, who were by far the heavier team, won by the narrow majority of five goals to four.  The Winslow Rovers have played sixteen matches this season, of which they have won ten, lost five, and drawn one;  number of goals – for forty-nine, against twenty-seven.

            WINSLOW : ROVERS v. HIGH SCHOOL.- The last match of the season was played on the School ground on Wednesday, and resulted in a win for the Rovers by three goals to one.  Early in the afternoon a heavy thunderstorm had the effect of thoroughly soaking the ground, and anything approachable to good play was impossible.
